Vassileos Laopodis studied Physics in the AthensUniversity and continued his post-graduate studies in Toulouse, France in Informatics (D.E.A and Doctorat de Specialite) and Business Administration (M.B.A – I.A.E).
Married since 1978 with Gina Papastergiou they have two children: Maria Louisa, Cultural Consultant/Interior Architect, 33 and Akis, Tourism Internet entrepreneur, 30.
He worked in various positions of responsibility in the private sector (IBM, FIAT, PYRAMIS bank, consulting companies, etc), in the Higher Education (Athens Tech. Institution, Athens University of Economics and Business, University of Aegean) and finally in the European Commission in Luxembourg and Brussels (1988-2006).
He has published several books on IT, management and innovation and over 120 papers in conferences, journals, newspapers and specialized magazines mainly on ICT, e-business, innovation and social impact of technology as well as promotion and management of cultural heritage.
He has been a founding member and president of the Greek Computer Society – EPY (1977), IBM Greece Employees’ Association , Vice-President of IT Centre of Social Services, Vice-President of CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Societies), member of IFIP WG9.2 Accountability of Computing, President of the Board of I-skills S.A., Board Member of Club Οf Rome/EU-Brussels Chapter and Europe of Cultures Forum, and member of several NGOs in Greece and abroad.
In 2006 Vasileios founded InnoPolis and CulturePolis (Europe of Cultures Forum: Adriatic-Ionian Chapter) NGOs in Corfu and since then, he is the President of CulturePolis, managing projects and initiatives on culture, sustainable development and innovation in Greece, South East Europe and Mediterranean.
