Organized by the Cultural Association of Tholaria and Aegialis Hotel & Spa, the 11th International Convention for culture and tourism Yperia 2013 will take place from May 8 to 13.
The event is under the auspices of E.O.T, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Marine and South Aegean and the municipality of Amorgos.

 

Title of this year’s convention: “POWERFUL CULTURAL & ENVIRONMENTAL EFFORTS IN GREECE & AMORGOS WITHIN THE EUROPEAN UNION”.

Sub Topics will be:

  • SUSTCULT – Management of Cultural Heritage
  • WalktheBlue Initiative: the old paths & Slow Food
  • Reforestation of Amorgos
  • UNESCO on the road to Hozoviotissa Monastery
  • Alternative tourism
  • 4ο Film Festival of Short Films on Amorgos, in cooperation with the Cinematographic Club of Amorgos

 

Distinguished people from Greece and other countries are invited: journalists, photographers, producers, Political Representatives, Ambassadors, artists…

There will be photography & painting exhibitions, workshops in Greek dancing & language, cooking, wine tasting and tours across the island.

In parallel different event will take place such as visits around the island to discover Amorgos history and culture, visits to Archaeological and Byzantine sites, exhibitions, demonstration of local music, dancing and gastronomy.

THURSDAY 09/05

Part of the 11th International Convention on Culture and Tourism YPERIA 2013, the 4th International Festival of Short Tourism Films of Amorgos, started today gathering many people, involving the International Short Film Festivals of Athens PSAROKOKALO and of Drama. Before the projections, the participants of Yperia, guided by the archaeologist George Gavalas, visited the archaeological site of the Hellenistic Tower of Holy Trinity in Arkesini,

FRIDAY 10/05

This 2nd day of the 11th International Convention YPERIA in Amorgos, began with the procession of the icons of Chozoviotissa Monastery to Epanochoriani church in the village of Lagada. After assisting to the events the participants were invited to visit the essential oils distillery of Amorgos. The island is indeed famous for its aromatic and medicinal herbs.

SATURDAY 11/05

This 3rd day of YPERIA 2013 Convention was mainly dedicated to Chozoviotissa Monastery. It started with a visit to the Monastery and its Museum, to continue with a visit to Chora village – main town of Amorgos - and the Archaeological Museum. The evening speeches discussed the project of the candidacy of the Monastery Chozoviotissa to be part of the World Heritage Monuments of UNESCO list.

SUNDAY 12/05

With a promising program the convention has managed to bring together multidisciplinary fields to talk about the future of our island of Amorgos. We attended the series of projections of the 4th Amorgos International short Film Festival on Tourism and three prizes were awarded. The scientific part of the meeting was also interesting by the role of short films for the promotion of a place as well as the potential of regional festivals to the touristic development.
