4TH PANCYCLADIC CONVENTION OF WOMEN ASSOCIATIONS TO AEGIALI – AMORGOS 27-30/04/2012

 

” The Cycladic woman throughout the centuries”

The 4th Pancycladic Convention of Women Associations was successfully completed on the 28th and the 29th of April 2012, in Aegiali of Amorgos.

The subject of the convention was “ The Cycladic woman throughout the centuries” and it was organized by the Cultural Association of Tholaria Women of Amorgos and was sponsored by Aegialis Hotel & Spa, where the convention took place.

The ladies were guided to the Monasteries of Hozoviotissa and St.George Valsamitis, to St.Anargiroi  and the Church Museum in Tholaria, to the religious museum “Archbishop Christodoulos” in Chora, to the villages of Amorgos, to its herbs, its gastronomy, its traditional music and dancing.
Topics of common interest for the islands of Cyclades were discussed and opinions and concerns were exchanged. The establishment of a Cycladic Federation was decided and a committee was appointed to create the constitution of the organization.

All women’s associations of Cyclades are invited to participate, in order, united to face matters of their islands.

Twelve women associations participated:

  • Cultural Women Association of Tholaria – Aegiali – Amorgos (organizing)
  • Women Association of Naousa
  • Women Associations “Marpissa” and “Ariis” of Paros
  • Women Association of Andros,
  • Women Association “Meliti” of Kea
  • Women Association “Andromeda” of  Serifos
  • Cultural Association of Myconos” and “Anomeritisses” of Mykonos ,
  • “Kastri” Agricultural Association of Syros,
  • “Seamen’s Families” of Syros,
  • Women Association of Tinos

The Pancycladic Convention of Women Associations started in 2006 under the initiative of the Women Association of Naoussa in Paros, continued in 2009 also in Naoussa Paros,  then in Mykonos in 2010 and in Amorgos Amorgos in 2012 .

 

ESTABLISHMENT OF A FEDERATION OF THE PANCYCLADIC WOMEN ASSOCIATIONS

According to a decision taken at the 3rd Pancycladic Convention in 2010 the 4th Pancycladic Convention presented the process of establishing a Federation of Women Associations. A Coordinating Committee and Interim Executive Committee with responsibility to initiate and coordinate processes founding of the Federation have been specified. As members of the Steering Committee were appointed :

1 ) Anna Loizou – Women Association Mykonos Anomeritisses
2 ) Stella Fyrogeni – Women Association of Paros
3 ) Fleur Theodorakou – Women Association of Naoussa Paros
4 ) Maria Korres – Women Association of Andros
5) Flora Roytsi – Women Association of Serifos “Andromeda”
6 ) Melina Roussos – “Seamen’s Families” of Syros
